John Weaver Visits Peterborough, NH
John Weaver is considered one of the most prominent organists in the United States and perhaps the world. It is my intention to take as many pictures of prominent and influential people as I can, and to document history with photos; on Friday, July 17 I got my chance.
The Monadnock Music Company and others hosted John Weaver at All Saints Episcopal Church in Peterborough, New Hampshire. The event was free, which was lucky because I have no money…yet.
I spoke with his wife before he played and asked for permission to take photos, She said it would be fine. After he played I took some pictures; they didn’t come out as I had hoped but I think it’s because I was using a D70 with no flash in a dark church.

It was a funny experience taking photos of Mr. Weaver. I tried to tell him and his wife that we should wait until people had left the church before taking pictures, but they either didn’t hear me or weren’t listening; there were others around that were talking to them and asking for autographs. In any case as I suspected as soon as the word photo was mentioned a nearby man jumped up producing a camera phone shouting “I’d like to take a picture too!”; he wasn’t the only one. Several other people produced their camera phones and I had to clear them back to take a shot; I could tell Mr. Weaver was a little put off but he let me take some shots and was very cooperative.
I felt bad when I left because he and his wife were still caught talking to people and I knew they just wanted to get out of there, but I suppose I tried to tell them. In the future I’ll have to make my point more clear.
