Abstractions from long exposures

Sorry for the long wait folks! I’m excited to begin working with this site more to give you more frequent and enjoyable updates! These are photos shot on the Rhode Island College campus- I was experimenting with long exposures with the Nikon D70s, which I found out isn’t great for that purpose. In any case I am very happy with the outcome.

The true test- My first photo contest

I’ll be entering three of the following images into a photography contest. This will be my first entrance into one. If I win I get $2,000 and a Nikon D90! If I lose…Well that’s not gonna happen. No matter what this is a win, I get recognition and experience in contests. Please let me know what your favorites are and enjoy!

Let me know which ones you think are winners! and wish me luck- I don’t own my own camera yet, it would be more convenient if I did. Thanks =)

Something…different.

This is a post featuring works that break the constraints of typical photography and permeates the imagination in ways that as-shot productions can only dream of. This is the abstract and the surreal. The fine art and the absurd perversion of pixels to form something to make your mind numb. Enjoy!

This photo reminds me of a concept often described in Miyamoto Musashi’s “Book of Five Rings” called the void. It is the absence of everything, a bottomless pit. It was an intriguing shot.

This particular photo illustration is named ZERO. I assure you that this began as a photograph and was morphed into what you now see. It is the purpose of this photo to draw a different reaction from each person, and to me draws a different reaction for every time I look at it.

Temple

Another photo illustration of sorts. This began as something entirely different. Like ZERO this image is framed or zoomed to one particular spot but radiates outwards.

I would like to see what people think this is a picture of. It’s an abstraction.090403090403_bannister_gallery150

“levels of time” is one of my favorites. There is a lot going on in this picture and it takes a little while to pick up on some of the more subtle aspects. Of course why I selected the name is quite clear, but there is more to it. It’s another that is left open to interpretation.

“Industrial Foundation” is perhaps my favorite…I know I already said that but perhaps its because all of my work is my favorite. Every shot I take is intentional and every perspective I allow to be seen is something I want people to look at and think about. What emotion or thought process does this inspire or provoke in you? Such a simple thing, right? What is it and why is it important? Some questions I thought of before I took aim.

Please let me know what you think! I enjoy the feedback and it gives me a better idea of what my photos do for people.

Also Visit Picasaweb.google.com/hjamesphotos for more of my work and further explanations of selected pieces. ThankS ! =)
